Athletic Republic Advantage - by Charlie Graves
When people ask me about Athletic Republic, I often share with them the competitive advantage athletes who train with us earn through consistency and commitment to our individualized approach to their development. But perhaps the real advantage the athletes have is access to the numerous talented business managers and performance sports trainers available to them in our network.
I recently asked several of our accomplished training center operators a few questions about Athletic Republic, including why they chose us and what they’re most proud of. I think you’ll find their answers were worth sharing.
Q: Why did you select Athletic Republic for the Rinx sports complex?
A: Tom Palamara, Athletic Republic - Hauppague, NY
"We choose to put Athletic Republic into the Sports Complex, which is anchored by two full-size ice rinks, rather than a fitness center, because it gave us a nationwide brand with a validated evidence-based training system. Athletic Republic's training programs have allowed us to expand our business beyond the hockey. Now we see football players, baseball players and soccer players coming into to train. Selecting Athletic Republic has been a good decision for our business."
Q: You've created a very successful performance sports training business., and of Of all you've accomplished, what makes you feel the most proud?
A: Matt Cole, BlueStreak Sports Training - Stamford, CT
"The really cool part of this business is our ability to change kids (and in turn their parents) lives by teaching them life-skills. We may train athletes to improve their speed, power and agility, but our greatest gift is helping athletes believe in themselves and teaching them to have the confidence to meet a challenge on and off the field."
Q. What is one piece of advice would you offer a new franchise operator?
A: Ashley Lange, Athletic Republic - Covington, LA
"As exciting as the experience of constructing a new training center may be, make sure to dedicate the time and energy during the start-up phase to talk with coaches, clubs and league administrators in your community. You don't need to celebrate every hit of a hammer, but you do need to celebrate every new club who commits to training in the center.”
Q. What does your training center do really well?
A: Randall Allred, Athletic Republic - Winston-Salem, NC
"Athletic Republic's products and programs allow us to present a very diverse line of training services. We separate ourselves from any competitive offering when we combine our team's ability to really connect with the athletes and parents. We sincerely care about how our athletes are performing in the training center, on their chosen field-of-play and in the classroom."
Q: What do you enjoy most about your career?
A: Jeff Seemann, Athletic Republic - Toledo
"I played guard for the University of Toledo; have been involved with elementary school physical education for the past 33 years; serve as the athletic director for my church, and teach Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology at the University of Toledo. I have a passion for teaching athletes how to move their bodies, and Athletic Republic provides me with the assessment, training and video resources to really show athletes how they can run faster and move better."
Q: How do you balance the demands of managing the business and training the athletes?
A: Chris Range, Madonna ProActive Sports Performance, Lincoln, NE
"We follow a systematic approach to managing our efforts, which is similar to the discipline required for our training programs. We established a daily routine that begins with settling any business issues when we first arrive at the center. First we reconcile the accounts and respond to phone calls and e-mail, and define schedules. Then we prepare for the training sessions later in the day, and we confirm which athletes are scheduled and what protocols we'll run. We focus our time before training to marketing and outreach. We'll start each week by making prospecting calls, and follow-up later on in the week with those we weren’t able to connect with the first time. Our marketing goal is simple: set an appointment, and we’re confident that once the athlete and parent visit us and see our capabilities, we'll have a new customer. I guess our motto would be; plan your work, then work your plan."
